Wichita State basketball is poised to enter the second year of the Paul Mills era

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – In just over a week, the Wichita State men’s basketball team will be back in the Roundhouse to kick off the second year of the Paul Mills era. After a 15-19 season last year, Mills believes this year’s group, including several key returnees, can take a leap.

The Shockers have some lofty goals for 2025 and believe they can back them up. They sit fourth in the American Athletic Conference preseason rankings, a position that Mills and his players have indicated they expect to be atop.

UAB, the team that ended Wichita State’s season last year, is projected to finish atop the preseason AAC standings. Memphis is ranked second in the preseason conference poll, followed by South Florida.

While the Shockers aim to finish higher than fourth and play in the postseason this year, Wichita State’s preseason AAC ranking is its highest since 2021.

You can hear from Coach Mills and his team in the video above.
