Video shows King County deputies rescuing family from fire

Recently released body-worn camera videos from two King County sheriff’s deputies show the pair saving a Skyway family from a fire on Sept. 25.

According to investigators, a fire broke out just before 11 a.m. in the backyard of a home near the intersection of South 124th Street and 78th Avenue South

Officers were in the area when they spotted thick black smoke.

The video shows them running to the house where the fire was burning and to a neighbor’s house, asking everyone to leave.

Fortunately, everyone was able to get to safety, including the family dog.

The fire was classified as an accident. According to investigators, the homeowners said they burned cardboard boxes in an open fire pit in the backyard that was left unattended.

After noticing embers and ash coming from the fire pit, the homeowner attempted to put out the fire pit with a hose.

Officers were able to alert the homeowner an hour later that the detached garage was on fire.
