New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to interfere in the anticipatory bail granted by the Karnataka High Court to Bhavani Revanna, mother of JD-S leader and prime accused in the sex video scandal case, Prajwal Revanna.

Prajwal Revanna is also the grandson of party leader and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.

Dismissing the Karnataka SIT’s special leave application for cancellation of pre-arrest bail, a bench headed by Justice Surya Kant said, “If the investigation is marred or derailed by granting interim bail, we stand with you (in cancellation).” . a deposit). But now the investigation is complete and the charge sheet has been filed.”

The court, which also included Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, refused to consider the SIT’s contention that the accused, who belongs to a “very influential political family”, could influence the conduct of a fair trial, thereby revoking the bail justified.

“We don’t want to go into this topic. These are like double-edged swords. Sometimes people get involved because of “politics.” Sometimes people abuse their political position and commit crimes. However, these are all questions that the court must address. It will be very, very difficult for us to say anything at this point,” the Supreme Court said.

Noting that a charge sheet has already been filed in the case and the main accused (Prajwal Revanna) has been arrested and sent to judicial custody, the Supreme Court declined to interfere in the early release of Bhavani Revanna.

Earlier in July, after much persuasion, the top court agreed to consider the Karnataka SIT’s plea and sought a response from Bhavani Revanna, daughter-in-law of former prime minister Deve Gowda.

Noting that the matter concerns the freedom of a woman whose guilt must be established during the trial, the Supreme Court warned that the matter need not be politicized and inquired about the role attributed to Prajwal Revanna’s mother.

In response, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the state SIT, submitted that the victim, in her statement recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), had described the role of Bhavani Revanna in her abduction.

The Karnataka High Court had on June 18 allowed Bhavani Revanna’s anticipatory bail application in a kidnapping case related to the sex video scandal. As a condition of granting them interim bail, a bench headed by Justice Krishna S. Dixit restricted their entry to Mysuru and Hassan districts.

The victim in the kidnapping case hails from Mysuru district while Hassan hails from Bhavani Revanna district. In its order, the Karnataka High Court said that Bhavani Revanna had answered 85 questions asked by the police and therefore the argument of her non-cooperation in the investigation cannot be accepted.

Bhavani Revanna is currently appearing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the abduction case of a maid who allegedly suffered sexual assault at the hands of Prajwal Revanna and her husband, JD-S legislator HD Revanna.
