Shikamaru was torn when Kankuro asked for assistance because he couldn’t refuse a request from the Sand Village, but it would be dangerous to send their strongest warriors there because they had no idea when a Shinju would appear. In the end, he made the decision to send a small force that included Mitsuki and Sarada.
