With the new Fire TV Stick HD, Amazon is replacing the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite models previously available in the entry-level Fire TV devices. However, the new streaming stick is almost unchanged compared to the standard model of the Fire TV Stick and, like it, only supports a maximum resolution of 1080p.

The Fire TV Stick Lite, which is now available for sale “while stocks last,” was never our recommendation anyway. The remote control included here did not have the ability to control the TV. Things are much better with the current model of the Alexa voice remote control included in the new Fire TV Stick HD. There are also buttons for volume control, muting and generally switching the television on or off – the Fire TV Stick HD then passes these commands on to the television via the HDMI port.

Clear product range

Given the marginal update, Amazon isn’t making much of a fuss about the new launch, but is simply letting it be known that it will make it easier for its customers to choose between the different Fire TV devices.

In Germany, however, this claim may seem a bit strange, because in this country the number of Fire TV devices available on Amazon has just been inevitably reduced. Due to a patent dispute with Nokia, neither the Fire TV Stick 4K nor the Fire TV Stick 4K Max are currently available from Amazon Germany. The two devices were withdrawn from sale because a video component contained in them used a function proven by Nokia. As far as we know, Amazon does not agree with the license fees set by Nokia for this.

As a result, the Fire TV product page on Amazon Germany is currently very manageable. In addition to the new Fire TV Stick HD and the discontinued model “Lite”, only the Fire TV Cube is offered there.
