Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of viral Garfield Heights father in Columbus

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) – The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Garfield Heights father was arrested in Columbus on Tuesday and later charged with murder, according to police.

Waunyae Arrington, 29, was charged with murder Thursday in connection with the Oct. 4 death of Jose Ervin Jr., according to a Garfield Heights Facebook post.

Arrington is being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on a $10 million bond after being arrested in Columbus earlier this week.

According to Garfield Heights police, Ervin was killed around 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 4 after an argument with the gunman near Turney and McCracken streets

Ervin was taken to Marymount Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Ervin is survived by his pregnant wife and twin boys, whom he loved dearly.

“Now, just over a year and several changes later, you are covering up his death, his murder for no reason,” Ervin’s sister said at a vigil days after his death.
