Bencic at the Billie Jean King Cup

The Swiss Bille Jean King Cup team can count on team leader Belinda Bencic again at the next meeting. The 27-year-old, who will return to the tennis tour in Hamburg at the end of October after her maternity break, was nominated by captain Heinz Günthardt for the playoff duel with Serbia on November 15th and 16th in Biel. In addition to Bencic, the Swiss squad includes Viktorija Golubic, Jil Teichmann, Simona Waltert and Céline Naef. Bencic had already announced her participation during her visit to the “Sportpanorama” in mid-September.

Resignation of Bellier

Antoine Bellier is retiring from tennis immediately. The 27-year-old from Geneva announced the end of his career on social media. «After ten years in the professional circuit, the moment has come to put my racket away. It was an exciting time to represent my country in the Davis Cup and take part in the qualifications for the four Grand Slam tournaments,” writes Bellier, the current world number 347. The left-hander achieved his best placement in April 2023 as 168. Bellier competed 9 singles on the ATP tour and played four times in the Davis Cup. In 2016, he decided the decisive fifth match in his favor in the encounter in Uzbekistan. At Challenger level he won two tournaments.
