A grandmother’s spontaneous photo has become a bittersweet memory of her three-year-old granddaughter Scarlett. Just a few minutes after the snapshot, the girl was hit by a car and died.

The mother, Samantha Jensen, shared the picture on TikTok and wrote: “My mother took this picture at 4:47 p.m., and my daughter’s time of death was at 4:52 p.m. My mother didn’t know she was capturing the last moments of her life.”

Three-year-old dies after horrific car accident

On October 7, 2022, Samantha Jensen from Oldtown, Idaho was heading to a wedding. Her mother, Jamie, looked after Scarlett and her two-year-old brother, Henry. “That afternoon she went for ice cream and went for a walk”Jensen tells People.

“When she got home, Scarlett wanted to get out of the stroller to pick flowers. That’s when my mother took the last photo of her,” Describe them further.

While Scarlett was walking in the family’s private yard, a Chevy Tahoe sped down the street and struck the family. “My mother waved her hands, yelled for him to stop and tried to pull my children out of the way, but he was too fast.”remembers Jensen. Scarlett died instantly, while her grandmother and Henry were seriously injured.

The driver fled on foot but was soon caught and sentenced to ten years in prison. Henry fought for his life and was taken to the hospital with numerous injuries.

“He was flown to Children’s Hospital where they diagnosed a broken back, six broken ribs, a broken jaw and other injuries.”reports Jensen. “My mother had several broken bones but was able to leave the hospital.”

Jensen discovered the photo weeks earlier. “My mother lost her cell phone in the accident and it took us a while to find it”so Jensen. “When I finally went through the pictures, I found this one. The timestamp showed it was taken just five minutes before the time of her death.”

Scarlett, born on New Year’s Day 2019, was Jensen’s first child. “Scarlett was the goofiest, sweetest little girl,” says the mother. “She loved horses, unicorns and was a great big sister.”

A life without Scarlett

The family struggles with the loss. “The house feels so quiet and empty without her”Jensen reveals. The grief is overwhelming, but the family is working hard to heal. “My faith in the Lord saved my life and helped me tremendously in my healing process”she adds.

Jensen shares her experiences openly on social media to show others that it’s okay to grieve out loud. “You don’t have to do it in silence. Speak about your loved ones, call their names loud and proud, and never stop sharing their stories.”she encouraged.
