New York reaches solar energy milestone ahead of schedule

New York has reached a major clean energy milestone a year ahead of schedule, state officials announced Thursday. The state installed 6 gigawatts of solar energy as part of its 2019 climate law goals, enough to power over 1 million homes.

According to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), this success has spurred approximately $9.2 billion in private investment and created over 14,000 jobs statewide. The next goal is 10 gigawatts by 2030.

“This is a tremendous benefit for consumers, our environment and our economy,” said NYSERDA President Doreen Harris, emphasizing New York’s leadership in community solar initiatives.
