How to color your iPhone app icon any color

How to color your iPhone app icon any color

After years of being known for its consistent aesthetic, Apple is finally giving users space to express themselves. The latest iOS 18 software update offers more personalization options than ever before. A new feature will allow users to tint their apps, giving their devices a more consistent look that reflects their tastes.

The customization process is simple. Start by holding your finger anywhere on your home screen until the app icons jiggle. Next, tap Edit at the top of the screen, then tap Customize in the drop-down menu. You should see a menu at the bottom of the screen with four options: Light, Dark, Auto, and Tinted.

The Sounds option brings up two sliders. In the upper area you can adjust the color of your apps. In the lower area you can select the color depth. If you want light pink accents on your home screen, set the top slider to pink and slide the bottom indicator for a lighter shade. You don’t have to worry about saving changes – the changes will appear automatically. To match the color tone of your apps to your background, use the eyedropper icon in the pop-up menu to test the background color.

When you select the Dark option, the white elements and backgrounds of many app icons turn black. The “Automatic” function, on the other hand, sets them so that they automatically switch from light to dark from day to night. You can follow the instructions in the video above.

The new update also lets you increase the size of your icons and widgets. The default size is small, but you can click Large in the same menu to make it larger. You’ll notice that the name disappears under each app to make room for the icons themselves.

Before iOS 18, personalizing your iPhone screen was largely limited to cheats and shortcuts. In some cases, these workarounds have been approved by Apple: A pre-installed app, literally called “Shortcuts,” lets you change your app icons to any image in your Photos library.
