Notre Dame on the unlucky list Two weeks into the young college football season

Two weeks into the 2024 college football season, there are clearly problems with Notre Dame’s offense.

In two games, Notre Dame has scored four touchdowns and is averaging 4.6 points per quarter this year.

After losing at home to Northern Illinois on Saturday, Notre Dame again failed to throw a touchdown pass, making the Fighting Irish one of only five teams nationwide to have not reached the end zone from the air in 2024.

Notre Dame, Northwestern, Miami University, Western Michigan and Air Force.

These five teams have a combined record of 3-6 this season, as each of them has played a part in setting football back several decades.

Notre Dame’s starting quarterback, Riley Leonard, has completed just 38 of 62 passes for 321 yards and two interceptions in two games this year.

Miami University is coming to Notre Dame in two weeks, which could make for quite a (lack of) air show if that unfortunate statistic continues for another week. It’s a real shame that Northwestern and Air Force aren’t on the schedule this year.

From a somewhat unfortunate perspective, both Army and Navy have managed to throw touchdown passes this season.

The good news for Notre Dame is that a favorable schedule remains in place and next week’s trip to Purdue will be the second of only three true away games the Irish will play this season.

The bad news is that it doesn’t matter how favorable the schedule is when the holes in the offense are as glaring as they were at Notre Dame.
