FIA appeal court rejects Ferrari protest against results of 6 Hours of Spa

The result of the 2024 FIA WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps is now final after Ferrari’s appeal – first announced by RACER in June – was rejected by the FIA’s International Court of Appeal. The decision means that the No. 12 Hertz Team JOTA Porsche, driven by Will Stevens and Callum Ilott, has been confirmed as the race winner.

The controversy over the results arose after the race control decided to restart the race for 1 hour and 40 minutes following a long red flag following Earl Bamber’s serious accident on the Kemmel Straight in the Cadillac Racing V-Series.R. Ferrari AF Corse – which was leading at the time of the red flag – appealed against this decision and the final result subsequently announced to the race control, which, however, rejected the appeal.

The leading Ferrari and much of the rest of the Hypercar field pitted for refueling as the restarted race returned to the green flag, with the number 12 catapulted to the front as it had pitted just before the red flag.

The judgment published today rejected AF Corse Ferrari’s appeal mainly on procedural grounds, since no protest can be lodged against a decision of the Race Direction under Article 13.2.1 of the FIA International Sporting Code.
