Queer Life – Unfiltered on ZDF on 11.09.2024

11.09.2024

A real-life documentary series about five young queers for whom a youth center in Cologne is a safe space and home. Together they are excitedly looking forward to the LGBTIQA* event – Christopher Street Day. AJ, Leo, Zoe, Kathy and Jona are out and proud, their pronouns are diverse, but their lives don’t always sparkle in rainbow colors: heartbreak comes damn quickly, dating is complicated and hate is not uncommon. There is support in the youth center “anyway”. Kathy (he/she/they) describes herself as non-binary, uses all pronouns and just wants to be accepted as such. But Kathy is constantly being met with hate on social media. Kathy will attract attention with an action in the pedestrian zone: Kathy and AJ will read the hate comments out loud. What will happen? AJ (he/them) also feels that he/them does not belong to either the female or male gender – is also non-binary and only uses “he” as a pronoun in German. His great passion is dancing – this is where AJ can live it up. He will put on a cool performance with the others for the Pride Parade. Will it work? Zoe (she/her) doesn’t like labels with regard to her sexual orientation. She likes to join the group, but also likes to do her own thing. She hasn’t lived in Cologne for long and immediately felt at home in the queer youth center. Her constant companion: dog Liselotte, who everyone likes to cuddle. Jona (he/him) is gay and wants to fall in love again – but the deadline for his bachelor’s thesis is approaching. He will polish up his dating profile anyway. The others will support him with the photo shoot. Will he bring a date with him to Christopher Street Day, or will Jona find true love at Pride? Leo (she/her) is a lesbian and also talks about this on social media. She likes to make videos – especially about mental health. A topic close to her heart. They applied for a film course with a video like this. But that would also mean: away from Cologne – away from the “anyway”. Will she have the acceptance by the CSD, and will she be able to celebrate it properly with everyone? The whole of Cologne is like a sea of rainbows: It is ColognePride. No matter what sexual orientation or gender identity – diversity is celebrated and acceptance is demonstrated. A day full of emotions and surprises for the five. Who gets to ride on the float, will the choreography work, and for whom will it be: Love is in the air!? Three more episodes of “Queer Life – Unfiltered” will be broadcast immediately afterwards. The documentary series will be available in the ZDFmediathek from Friday, September 6, 2024, 9:00 a.m.
