The producer of Lollipop Chainsaw RePop ensures that censorship does not occur again and that improvements have been made in the “original mode”.

Since the original game featured cheerleader Juliet Starling in various costumes – many of them suggestive – fans feared Lollipop Chainsaw RePop would be censored for modern sensibilities. This was made worse after comments that the game had “a more realistic approach to graphics” were perceived by fans as a hypocritical way of affirming this.

Dragami Games CEO and executive producer of the original game, Yoshimi Yasuda, instead assured fans that he would do his best to prevent censorship. This was later confirmed, as was the fact that the scenario and script remained unchanged and that the developers abhorred censorship as much as the fans did.

While the “RePop” mode features pop-art graphics over the majority of the blood and gore, the original mode reportedly retained the blood and gore. However, VGC reports that it was recently confirmed that the original mode will feature some changes, so Yasuda reached out to X in a lengthy post to reassure fans that this would not involve any censorship.

“I will explain the original mode. The original mode is a mode that reproduces the same gore expression, cutscene direction, character design, movement, comic character introductions, costumes, achievements, etc. as the original version,” Yasuda explained.

“For this original mode that we requested for approval, there were no requests for changes from any of the platformers. This is as I have already explained.”

“Next, the differences from the original version are as follows. First, all parameters that have been adjusted for modern action games are different. These include attack power, movement speed, camera movement range, combo input acceptance time, and initial combo skills,” Yasuda continued.

“Other changes include the number of shots remaining in the blaster, changes to the behavior of Nick’s special moves, adding an option to automate QTE, changing Ranked Mode to a time attack that cycles through all stages, changes to the item lineup in the shop, price adjustments, adding a chain attack system, image quality, resolution, FPS, and adding Yukari Tamura’s voice.”

Tamura will serve as an additional Japanese voice for Juliet alongside Yoko Hikasa and Eri Kitamura. Tara Strong is her English voice.

Yasuda further explained that other changes in the original mode should only serve to Lollipop Chainsaw RePop. “I also corrected some of the incorrect implementations in the original version.”

“In particular, the cutscene that plays when you defeat the Big Chicken zombie in the psychedelic world of stage 3 has been changed from a cutscene to a slow-motion scene where you defeat the Gatekeeper zombie. This change was made to unify the rules for cutscenes for defeating zombies.”

“I also corrected the chainsaw marks to appear on all buses, walls, roads, etc., except plants and trees. Both were specifications I missed during the final check of the original version, and I made the corrections in RePOP.”

“We have requested a Day 1 patch, but the purpose is not to make fixes based on the platform game, but to fix bugs and improve the quality of the ranked mode,” Yasuda concluded.
