  • Jérôme Kym (ATP 151) successfully opens the playoff of World Group I in the Davis Cup and beats Ignacio Buse (ATP 212) 6:1, 6:4.
  • In the second singles, Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 171) will play against the Peruvian team leader Juan Pablo Varillas (ATP 179) (now live on SRF two).
  • On Saturday, a doubles match and the remaining two singles will follow in Biel.

Jérôme Kym gave the Swiss Davis Cup team a perfect start in Biel. The 21-year-old kept the upper hand against the one-year-younger Peruvian Ignacio Buse and won 6:1, 6:4. After 1 hour and 6 minutes, he converted his first match point.

In the first set, Kym was the only one on the attack. He used his first two break chances and quickly made it 5-0. In the second set, Kym fended off two break points in the very first game against a now much more aggressive Buse before he had to give up his serve. But the Aargau native immediately followed up with a rebreak. With the renewed service break to make it 5-4, Kym, who became the youngest Davis Cup player in Swiss tennis history in 2019, made the preliminary decision.

Will Hüsler follow suit?

After Kym, Marc-Andrea Hüsler could take the next step towards victory over Peru on Friday. He will face Peruvian team leader Juan Pablo Varillas. A doubles match and the remaining two singles will follow on Saturday. The winner of the match will qualify for the final round next spring.
