The Hamburg native wins in the round of the last eight against Turkish player Zeynep Sönmez.

Tennis player Eva Lys has reached the semifinals on the WTA Tour for the third time. The 22-year-old from Hamburg won the round of the last eight at the tournament in Monastir, Tunisia, with a score of 7:5, 6:3 against Turkey’s Zeynep Sönmez. In the semifinals, the world number 126 will face Yulia Starodubzewa (Ukraine) or Sonay Kartal (Great Britain).

Lys and the world number 148 Sönmez, who had won the only direct duel so far after the German had given up, had a close match – but with many errors from both players, especially in the second set. It was only in the fifth game that Lys was the first to get her serve through, which was the key to the win.

Lys had previously reached a WTA semifinal in July 2024 in Budapest (loss to Russian Diana Schnaider) and in October 2023 in Cluj-Napoca (loss to her compatriot Tamara Korpatsch).
