Volkswagen integrates AI into myVW app with Google Gemini

Intelligent help for vehicle owners

Volkswagen has partnered with Google to integrate AI technologies into the myVW app.

In collaboration with Google, Volkswagen is introducing generative AI technologies in its myVW app. According to the manufacturer, owners of MY24 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models will have direct access to an AI-powered virtual assistant via the app. This assistant, based on the Google Cloud Platform Vertex AI, enables users to quickly and easily access important vehicle information.

Smart support with the virtual assistant

Volkswagen is using Google Cloud’s AI and machine learning capabilities to equip the app with what it calls Gemini technology. Vehicle owners will be able to use the myVW app to ask questions about their vehicles, such as: “How do I change a tire?” or “What does this warning light mean?” Thanks to the AI integration, the app will provide quick and precise answers.

myVW app: Support from Google Cloud

In addition, Google Cloud’s multi-modal technology will be integrated. This will allow users to point their smartphone camera at the indicator lights in the vehicle to immediately receive relevant information.

The new app functionalities were developed with the support of Google Cloud Consulting, which supported Volkswagen throughout the entire development process. Volkswagen aims to offer an innovative and user-friendly solution that meets high security standards, according to the company.

Future outlook: Expansion of functions for other models

While the AI-supported function is currently only available for MY24 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles, Volkswagen plans to expand it to other models from 2025, starting with the 2020 model year. The myVW app is available for download from both the Apple Store and the Google Play Store.
