When does the Presidents Cup take place?

The event will be held in Montreal from September 26 to 29, with a total of 30 matches played over four days.

How are the teams composed?

The international team will have the advantage of home country support, with a Canadian captain (Mike Weir) and three Canadian golfers (Corey Connors, Mackenzie Hughes and Taylor Pendrith). Four players on the international team – Jason Day, Hideki Matsuyama and Scott – have all participated in at least four Presidents Cup competitions.

This week, no golfer from the United States has competed in the event more than twice. Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele will all be playing their third Presidents Cup this week, while the American side also includes four newcomers.

The American team does not include Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, both of whom have long excelled in team competitions, and is missing LIV golfers such as Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau. Spieth, who was 5-0 for the USA in 2022, underwent wrist surgery after the PGA Tour season, and Thomas was not named as a captain’s candidate despite his 17-7-4 record in Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup matches. The international team is missing LIV golfers such as Cameron Smith (Australia) and Joaquin Niemann (Chile).

After a record-breaking 14 players made their Presidents Cup debut in 2022, only six players will do so in 2024, the third-lowest number ever.

How is the Presidents Cup structured?

The 12-player teams will play in various game formats during the four-day competition.

Day 1 – Thursday, September 26th – Five four-ball games planned

Day 2 – Friday, September 27th – Five four-team games planned

Day 3 – Saturday, September 28th – Four fourball games in the morning and four foursomes in the afternoon

Day 4 – Sunday, September 29th – The final day consists of 12 singles matches

All Each game counts as one point, so the total score is 30 points.

There are no playoffs, with each team receiving half a point if a match is tied after 18 holes. In a change inspired by the events of the 2003 Presidents Cup, if the match is tied at the end of singles play, the competition is declared a tie and the teams share the Presidents Cup.

NBC Sports presents Presidents Cup coverage from the first tee to the final putt Thursday through Sunday, for a total of over 100 hours of Presidents Cup event and studio programming throughout the week on NBC, GOLF Channel, Peacock, NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.

While some live coverage is free, other broadcast time slots are only available through streaming subscription services.

Which team is the favorite for the Presidents Cup?

With nine straight wins in the series, most recently a 17.5 to 12.5 victory two years ago, the USA is a -250 favorite to successfully defend its title, according to the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook. That means you would need to bet $250 to win to make $100. A successful $100 bet on the Internationals, if they win, would return $275.

“I’m doing my best to stay as balanced as possible and not think about it too much because it’s 0-0,” said Scheffler. “It doesn’t matter who’s the favorite and who’s not. We have to go out and play.”
