Do you remember? Last week, AVM started releasing FRITZ!OS 8. However, the update was initially only available for the FRITZ!Box 7590 AX. AVM indicated that it would soon release the update for other products. FRITZ!OS 8 will also be available for download for the FRITZ!Box 7530 AX.

AVM releases FRITZ!OS 8 for the FRITZ!Box 7530 AX

AVM has released FRITZ!OS 8 for the FRITZ!Box 7530 AX. We don’t want to beat around the bush. The update offers a variety of improvements, so we would like to point you straight to the long list of release notes.

New features: – User interface: Graphical representation of connections on the overview (home page)

  • New online monitor provides information on the utilization of the Internet connection and the utilization of individual network devices
  • Internet: IPv6 data can now also be transmitted via a Wireguard® VPN tunnel
  • Mesh: Graphic overview of all devices connected to the FRITZ!Box in a new design and with additional functions
  • Push service: revised design and more convenience

New features and improvements in FRITZ!OS 8.00

Internet:

  • NEW IPv6 data can now also be transmitted via a WireGuard® VPN tunnel (new WireGuard® connection required, no forwarding of IPv6 data to the Internet)
  • NEW New graphical online monitor with extended information on the utilization of the Internet connection by individual network devices
  • NEW Extend the online time limited by parental controls by 45 minutes – directly in the detailed settings of the network device
  • When allowing Internet access to FRITZ!Box services, an additional IP block list from AVM can be used
  • Improvement For VPN network connections via WireGuard®, the domain “fritz.box” is resolved in the entire connected network
  • Improvement in VPN network connections via WireGuard®: it is possible to specify the domains of the remote site for DNS resolution
  • More detailed explanations of errors during the setup of WireGuard® connections
  • Improvement Added notice of a possible risk when port sharing for port 80 or 443
  • Improved pre-selection of the easiest setup path for the Internet providers Telekom, Vodafone and EWE during the initial setup on the fiber optic connection
  • Improvement Detailed improvements in the initial setup behind a fiber optic modem (ONT)
  • Improved selection of automatic fair bandwidth distribution in the home network including ingress shaping as a separate option in the prioritization settings

WiFi:

  • NEW Visualization of WLAN usage in the home network for the last 7 days added to “WLAN > Radio channel”

Mesh fabric:

  • NEW Specify a name and icon for network devices directly in the mesh overview graphic (tooltip)
  • Improvement Details of the LAN connections between FRITZ! products are shown in the Mesh overview graphic (tooltip)

Telephony:

  • Improvement Answering machine recordings have higher voice quality (HD audio)
  • Improvement For the provider “Drillisch GmbH” the option “Encrypted telephony active” is offered
  • Improved number order in phone book entries to be easier to change
  • Improvement The call list shows the country or location from which the call comes.

DECT/FRITZ!Fon:

  • Improvement Display of WLAN access data can now be switched on or off for each FRITZ!Fon
  • Improvement Easier deletion of multiple emails using the “delete multiple” option
  • Improvement Home screen “Weather” now usable in all countries

Home network:

  • NEW Devices that use guest access can now also be given their own names
  • NEW More overview through individual symbols for network devices
  • Improvement Detailed settings of a device on the Home Network > Network Connections page have been redesigned
  • Improvement Error handling and speed settings for WAN/LAN connections revised (only FRITZ!Box products with WAN connection)
  • Improvement Random calculation of the Unique Local Address (ULA, IPv6) according to RFC 4193

Smart Home:

  • NEW On the device page of the FRITZ!DECT 350 window sensor in the FRITZ!Box user interface, the window open detection can be set up for the selected radiator controls
  • NEW The templates also allow you to set the target temperature for radiator controls, the brightness, saturation and color for lamps and the position for roller shutters in percentage increments
  • NEW The temperature that can be set for radiator controls can be limited with a lowest and highest temperature
  • NEW Routines can also be triggered by a preset or astronomically specified time
  • Improvement Registration of smart home devices via FRITZ!Box user interface revised

System:

  • NEW New graphical representation of the FRITZ!Box connection status on the overview (home page)
  • Improvement File names for saved settings expanded to include the individual FRITZ!Box name
  • Improvement A personal subject for the push service can be set
  • Improvement Push Service setup revised
  • Improved communication with all AVM services for the FRITZ!Box (update etc.) preferably via IPv6, alternatively via IPv4
  • Improvement Link to reset password in the “Forgot password” email more robust
  • Improvement With “Diagnostics > Function” the services for the Network Time Protocol are checked and displayed if there are any errors
  • Improvement of simplified address changes in the push service through the new standard recipient, which can be set independently of the sender
  • Improvements to sender information for emails from the push service require additional confirmation
  • Improved the sending interval of emails from the push service for notifications about user logins on the FRITZ!Box
  • Improvement Wizard “Settings on a new FRITZ!Box” improved for a more robust change from DSL to fiber optic or cable
  • Improvement More reliable detection of FRITZ!Box updates that have already been carried out when using the “Transfer settings to a new FRITZ!Box” function

USB/Media Server:

  • Improved energy saving function now also works with USB storage devices in Green Mode (USB 2.0)
  • The data packets downloaded from fritz.nas now contain an easier assignment of the names of the respective FRITZ!Box model and a timestamp in the file name

Further improvements in FRITZ!OS 8.00

Internet:

  • Change in VPN connections over IPSec: AES-192 is no longer supported as an encryption algorithm in Phase 2 SAs
  • Change For VPN connections via IPSec, the hash algorithm MD5 and the encryption algorithm 3DES are no longer supported for security reasons
  • Change The IPv6 option “Assign ULA (Unique Local Address) as long as no IPv6 Internet connection exists (recommended)” is no longer available
  • Change In PPPoE passthrough mode of the FRITZ!Box, DNS “root queries” are no longer filtered via UDP
  • Fixed Under certain circumstances, the network traffic of a connected telephone system was not routed via a specially configured VoIP interface
  • Fixed OpenWrt devices running behind a FRITZ!Box might not be able to establish an IPv6 connection to the Internet
  • Fixed Independent port forwarding (UPnP) for the same port on different home network devices may not work
  • Fixed Active WireGuard® connections may have been interrupted when adding or deleting WireGuard® connections
  • Fixed VPN connections via WireGuard® were not possible with multiple (comma separated) domains as endpoint entry

WiFi:

  • Change For improved compatibility with older WLAN devices, security settings can be adjusted on the WLAN > Security page
  • Change WLAN encryption (default) to WPA2/WPA3 (“Transition Mode”) (devices with Wi-Fi 7)
  • Change Note text when selecting WLAN encryption “WPA2+WPA3” has been removed
  • Fixed Display of the WLAN properties of a registered WLAN device was not correct in rare cases
  • Fixed When checking 5 GHz channels for radar (DFS), no animated wait icon was displayed below those channels in the UI
  • Fixed Repeaters that were logged on to the guest access were not marked as “WLAN guests”
  • Fixed: Unnecessarily long flashing of the WLAN LED after changing a WLAN setting when no guest access is active

Home network:

  • Recommendation below the mesh overview to activate the automatic update search

System:

  • Change The link in the email generated by the “Forgot password” push service is valid for 20 minutes
  • Fixed After sending the results of the functional diagnosis, an event message about changed FRITZ!Box settings was incorrectly displayed
  • Fixed The “Live TV” button for Magenta TV streaming is missing in the user interface when viewed on smartphones and tablets

USB/Media Server:

  • Fixed: Moving, copying, deleting, etc. files via FTP was not possible in a top-level folder of a file tree
  • Fixed In some configurations, access to FRITZ!NAS content via download link was not possible
