Next duel in the HSV goal? Baumgart makes a clear statement

Last Saturday, Matheo Raab was able to guard the HSV goal for the first time this season. Due to pneumonia during preseason training, he had lost his regular place to Daniel Heuer Fernandes. The latter, in turn, was now out sick. Can Raab now hope for the next round in the duel for the position in the Hamburg goal?

“I’ll give it my all and then we’ll see how it goes next week,” said Raab after the 2:2 draw against his former club Kaiserslautern. The good news: he will definitely play against Düsseldorf too, because his rival is still sitting out. The bad news: he will soon have to sit on the bench again.

HSV coach Steffen Baumgart made it clear to the ‘Kicker’: “Ferro [Heuer Fernandes, Anm.d. Red.] started as number 1, and I’m not going to start digging around every time. I need a few more games. I have an injured goalkeeper and no goalkeeper who is out because of his performance.”

This means that Raab will have to take a back seat, while Heuer Fernandes is a given. But both of them know how quickly the cards can be reshuffled.
