Taiwanese prosecutors say four people with links to Hezbollah have been questioned so far over exploding pagers

Taiwanese prosecutors said Thursday they had so far interviewed four people as witnesses in their investigation into a Taiwanese company linked to the pagers that detonated in Lebanon last week, dealing a fatal blow to Hezbollah.

According to security sources, Israel was responsible for the pager explosions that escalated the conflict between the two sides. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.

How and when the pagers were weaponized and remotely detonated remains a mystery to the public. The search for answers extends to Taiwan, Bulgaria, Norway and Romania.

Taiwan-based Gold Apollo said last week it was not the manufacturer of the devices used in the attack and that Hungary-based BAC, to which the pagers were traced, had a license to use its brand.

The Taiwanese government also stated that the pagers were not made in Taiwan.

A spokesman for the Shilin District Prosecutors’ Office in Taipei, which is leading the investigation into Gold Apollo, said that in addition to the two people questioned last week, a current and a former employee were also questioned as witnesses.

After the fatal explosion, the pagers were destroyed.
According to reports, nine people were killed by the explosive pagers.

“We are working on this case quickly and are trying to find a solution as soon as possible,” the spokesman added. He declined to name the people interviewed or say whether prosecutors plan to question other people.

Last week, prosecutors questioned Gold Apollo president and founder Hsu Ching-kuang and Teresa Wu, the sole employee of a company called Apollo Systems.

Gold Apollo has not commented on the investigation and did not respond to a further request for comment on Thursday.

Reuters could not reach Wu for comment. Neither answered questions from reporters as they left the prosecutor’s office last week.
