Jail records identify suspect in shooting near Wichita elementary school

WICHITA, Kansas (KWCH) – Sedgwick County Jail booking records identified the suspect in a Shooting outside an elementary school in Wichita this week.

Vincent Solomaon is expected to face charges of attempted first-degree murder, assault and use of a weapon on school property following a shooting that left his wife hospitalized.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said Solomaon shot his wife outside Cessna Elementary School on Monday morning after dropping the children off at school. When officers arrived, they saw Solomaon point his gun at them before putting it to his wife’s head. An officer then shot Solomaon.

School monitoring of the incident shows the suspect, a 46-year-old man, chasing the 30-year-old woman up the school sidewalk after she was shot multiple times.

Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan said when shots were fired, a school employee pulled the doors shut and locked them so the man couldn’t get in. Sullivan said Cessna implemented new security measures last year that worked well in the incident.

According to jail records, Solomaon is hospitalized but is expected to survive. His wife is also expected to survive. The couple’s children were taken into protective custody following the shooting.
