Rhode Island police arrest eight people in connection with a suspected marijuana operation

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island State Police have arrested eight people connected to an alleged illegal marijuana growing operation after an investigation led to the seizure of more than 1,700 cannabis plants and nearly 280 pounds of the drug.

The police announced on Thursday that the investigation was based on an anonymous tip. Their investigation included multiple search warrants for homes and locations where the illegal cultivation took place in North Providence, North Scituate, Lincoln, Westerly, Providence and Woonsocket, officials said.

The searches were carried out on September 18th. According to the police, the investigators confiscated a total of:

  • Four firearms and a large capacity feeder
  • 279.4 pounds of “usable” marijuana
  • 922 mature marijuana plants
  • 859 immature marijuana plants
  • One pound of marijuana “chips,” or cannabis concentrate
  • 468 grams of psilocybin mushrooms
  • 11.1 grams of cocaine
  • 65 Oxycodone tablets
  • 30 amphetamine pills
  • A motor vehicle
  • Two motorcycles
  • $79,876 in cash

According to police, seven of the suspects were arrested on September 18. The eighth was arrested on Tuesday.

The charges against them range from possession of firearms to possession of narcotics, police said. Two were released after posting bail, while the rest remain in custody, officials said.
