Chicago shooting: Four men were shot near Fort Knox Studios on the Northwest Side, according to police

Much of what happened is still under investigation, but the shooting appears to have been an ambush. The owner of the business across the street told ABC7 his surveillance video shows the vehicle containing the shooters parked in his parking lot for about 40 minutes before a group of about five or six hooded men jumped out and started shooting.

Police said the four victims were walking on the sidewalk when they were shot. Investigators were still on scene early Thursday afternoon as they continued to investigate the overnight shooting.

In a video from one of the hospitals where some of the victims went for treatment, a black SUV full of bullet holes can be seen.

Two men, ages 24 and 25, were rushed to Community First Hospital and later taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, police said.

Two other men, ages 20 and 24, were transported by Chicago Fire Department to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where they were listed in good condition, police said.

Jeff Ulrich, who lives nearby, said he heard gunshots early Thursday morning.

“This morning around 2:30 a.m. I suddenly woke up and heard gunshots and it sounded like automatic machine guns or something going back and forth, probably about 20, 30 shots,” Ulrich said. “It lasted a good five minutes or more.”

Ulrich said he couldn’t believe it at first.

“Just surprising for this area, very quiet,” Ulrich said. “There’s not much going on here other than the trains.”

According to Fort Knox’s owner, the building was closed at the time, but one of its long-term tenants with night access was using one of the many recording studios inside at the time of the incident. The injured were apparently among this tenant’s guests, but he didn’t know who they were or what exactly they were doing.

Area Five investigators are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No one was in custody, police said.
