A new Agatha All Along theory presents another idea about the identity of Aubrey Plaza’s character: the comic book villain Lady Death.

“I see a lot of parallels to this story and that of [Puss in Boots: The Last Wish],” one Reddit user explains. “Both have a protagonist who is searching for a wish and running away from an imposing figure dressed all in black (i.e. Death). What’s even worse is that in the official promotional art for the Agatha series of tarot cards, the Lady of Death appears and obviously that holds the same knife as Aubrey Plaza episode 1.

In the new Marvel show, following on from 2021’s WandaVision, Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha is on a quest to regain her powers by taking a journey down the legendary Witch Road – with a newly formed, ragtag coven in tow. Faced with a series of trials, whoever survives them all is promised to be rewarded with what they lack.

We know that she will be joined at some point by Plaza’s character, who is named Rio Vadal and shares a mysterious past with Agatha, but that’s all that’s been revealed so far.

As for Lady Death, she is an incarnation of Death, a main antagonist in Marvel Comics. In the comics she stood alongside Thanos and Deadpool and has also appeared in the MCU – so to speak. Murals and statues of her can be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Love and Thunder.

“I love this theory. Aubrey would make such a great death,” another user replied. “She has this slightly otherworldly, not-so-normal thing that she does so well, and she plays a scary role, but only for certain people. Agatha has definitely flirted with death before, so the flirtatious but dangerous thing would make a lot of sense.” I’m not sure if it actually works, but I would be very happy if it did.

Keen-eyed fans may have discovered further proof of this theory in the form of a recent article Social media commercialwith the clip spelling out the word “death” over a Ouija board.
