Supreme Court will resume hearing soon, consultation date soon on mcc.nic.in

Registration for the first round of NEET PG 2024 counseling is currently underway but the counseling schedule is yet to be finalized as the matter is still under consideration by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will resume hearing of the NEET PG case. The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) has commenced NEET PG 2024 Counseling Registration for Round 1 on September 20, 2024. Candidates who have appeared in the NEET PG exam can register for the counseling process through the official website at mcc.nic.in.

On Friday, the Supreme Court issued a notice in response to a writ petition seeking greater transparency in the NEET-PG exams. The court expressed dissatisfaction with the National Board of Education’s last-minute changes to the exam pattern. According to Live Law, the matter will be heard again on September 27.

Senior advocate Vibha Makhija, representing the petitioners, criticized the new mark normalization policy introduced just three days before the exam, describing it as a “knee-jerk reaction”. She highlighted the NBE’s lack of regulations regarding the conduct of audits, stressing that everything is based on a single information bulletin that can be changed at the discretion of the authorities.

Addressing the NBE’s counsel, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) questioned why the exam pattern was changed so close to the exam date and said, “You claim that you have not laid down rules; everything is based on the brochure, just three days before. “When you take the exam, the entire pattern changes – how can you do that?”

The NBE’s lawyer responded that no unusual changes had been made. The CJI replied: “This is very unusual! Three days before the exams? The students will collapse!”

The bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra issued notice in the case and directed the NBE and the Union to file their replies within a week.

On August 11, the audit was conducted in two shifts and a normalization process was applied. Students raised concerns and claimed that this process led to inconsistencies. In response, they submitted a request to release the exam’s answer keys so they could independently verify their results.
