Akash Deep manages to convince the unconvinced Rohit Sharma to take DRS for LBW, the Indian captain is stunned by the repetition

On the first day of the second and final Test against Bangladesh, Indian fast bowler Akash Deep turned heads with an exceptional start in Kanpur. After overnight rains delayed the start of the game, India opted to bowl first under cloudy skies – a decision that quickly paid off.

Akash Deep made an immediate impact, taking the wicket of opener Zakir Hasan in his first over without conceding a single run. The excitement continued as Akash Deep dramatically dismissed the other opener, Shadman Islam. Initially, the umpire rejected the LBW appeal after the bowler released a ball from close to the wicket, hitting Shadman’s right-hand bat.

While some fielders looked unsure, Akash Deep stood firm and insisted that the batsman was out. Even when Indian captain Rohit Sharma suggested that the ball might have gone over the stumps, Akash Deep’s unwavering confidence convinced Rohit to take the review, a decision that would soon be confirmed.

As the replays came in, it became clear that the throw would have injured the leg stump, prompting celebrations from the Indian players. Rohit, who was initially in disbelief, hugged Akash Deep in jubilation as the team rejoiced over Bangladesh losing both their opening games in the first session.

Despite early suggestions that India could field two pacers and three spinners in the second Test, the overnight rains in Kanpur might have convinced the team management to stick with the same team combination as in the first Test. Akash Deep was also impressive in the Test in Chennai, picking two wickets in the first innings and helping India reduce the visitors to just 146.

The Bengal bowler made his Team India debut earlier this year during the Test series against England. In his limited appearances, Akash Deep impressed with his performances and grew in confidence, enjoying the absence of veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, who is currently nursing an injury.

India leads the two-Test series 1-0 against Bangladesh and will look to secure a clean sweep ahead of its next outing in the longest format against New Zealand, which tours the country next month.
