Basata denies calling Nay Wa Mitego about the song “Nitasema”.

Dar es Salaam. The National Arts Council (BASATA) has denied claims that they summoned bongo flava artiste Emmanuel Elibarick, known as Nay Wa Mitego, over his controversial song “Nitasema”.

This happened despite Nay himself publicly stating that he had received an official letter from the council.

In conversation with The citizenBasata executive secretary Kedmon Mapana said: “I have seen these reports on social media but I am not aware of any official summons. I am currently in Songea for work and only discovered it online.”

Nay Wa Mitego had earlier shared with his followers via Instagram that he had been invited by Basata to discuss the song Nitasema.

According to his contribution, he was unable to attend the meeting scheduled for the morning due to travel commitments.

He mentioned that he would answer the call and appear at Basata’s office the next day.

“I received a summons letter from BASATA to speak about my song Nitasema. The meeting was scheduled for this morning but I was traveling so I will attend tomorrow Friday at 12pm,” Nay wrote.

“Nitasema” has sparked widespread discussion due to its bold content and addresses current issues such as the increase in kidnappings and allegations of police involvement in these cases.

The song touched on frustration over the police’s failure to fully investigate the matter, further intensifying the public debate.

Although Basata refuses any formal summons, the song continues to be well received by the audience. Nay’s supporters have even raised funds for him on social media, calling it a reward for his efforts to bring important social issues to light.

However, Nay is undeterred and tells his followers: “To my fans and to the justice-loving Tanzanians: We are united and will stand any test because the voice of the people is the voice of God and justice uplifts a nation.” No matter what happens, I will continue to speak out.”

Nitasema, which also features fellow artist Raydiace, has now amassed over 598,045 views on YouTube and its popularity continues to grow amid ongoing debate over its message.
