Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090 is currently disappearing from stores

The availability of Nvidia’s fastest gaming graphics card, the GeForce RTX 4090, has been decreasing for weeks, accompanied by price increases. 27 manufacturer cards from Asus, Gainward, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit and PNY are available for delivery at short notice – even not necessarily immediately – some of which are only available from one or two retailers and many exclusively from Ebay shops.

In some cases you can still get a copy that can be delivered at short notice for less than 1,900 euros; However, the prices quickly rise towards 2000 euros. For comparison: the recommended retail price is 1,769 euros. Nvidia is offering its own Founders Edition for this price, although it has no longer been available for a long time. In the summer of 2023, some RTX 4090 cards reached a low price of under 1,600 euros, but rose again at the end of the year.

The GeForce RTX 4090 is the only Nvidia graphics card affected by this. The next faster graphics card, GeForce RTX 4080 Super, is still widely available. Many models undercut Nvidia’s 1099 euro RRP, the cheapest is just under the 1000 euro mark (from 999 euros).

The rumor mill continues to speculate about the specifications and release dates of the upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080. However, the leaks should be viewed with caution, as there are many contradictory leaks circulating in advance, especially with Nvidia graphics cards.

The X account “kopite7kimi” provides current speculation, according to which only the GeForce RTX 5090 should clearly stand out from the current generation. We are talking about 21,760 shader cores, 32 GB of GDDR7 RAM and an electrical power consumption of up to 600 watts (RTX 4090: 16,384 shaders, 24 GB of GDDR6X, 450 watts).

According to the leak, the GeForce RTX 5080 only had slightly more shader cores than the GeForce RTX 4080 and remained with 16 GB of memory, with a power consumption of up to 400 watts.

It is questionable whether the first 5000 models will appear this year. Nvidia could also phase out the GeForce RTX 4090 to free up more production capacity for AI accelerators. They have a much higher margin than gaming graphics cards.
