Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota and Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio will face off Tuesday in the first and only scheduled vice presidential debate before the Nov. 5 election.

The debate comes as early voting begins in several states including Minnesota and South Dakota and three weeks after former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris met on stage at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia over immigration, abortion, the economy, climate change and overseas there have been conflicts.

The high-risk event could be the last duel between all candidates before election day.

⌚ When, where and how to see

Tuesday’s debate is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET and last 90 minutes. The event will take place at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City – a deep blue Democratic stronghold and former home of Trump.

The event will be broadcast on CBS and live streamed on all platforms where CBS News 24/7 and Paramount+ are available. CBS said it plans to broadcast the debate simultaneously on different channels.

Yahoo.com also features real-time reporting and analysis from our editorial team.

🗣️ Who will moderate the debate?

The debate will be moderated by Norah O’Donnell, editor-in-chief and moderator of CBS Evening Newsand Margaret Brennan, CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent and host of Face the nation.

📖 What are the debate rules?

CBS has not yet publicly announced the rules for Tuesday’s event. ABC’s Sept. 10 presidential debate had ground rules that included muted microphones when it was not the candidate’s turn to speak, no live audience and candidates were not allowed to view notes or interact with campaign staff during the debate.

✍️ How are Vance and Walz preparing?

Vance asked Republican Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota to step in as Walz, a fellow Minnesotan, to prepare for the debate, The New York Times reported. Vance has been conducting debate practice at his home in Cincinnati and online with his team and a senior adviser to Trump’s campaign, Jason Miller.

Vance is expected to portray Walz’s policies as too liberal and focus on the actions he took as governor of Minnesota while attacking him over inflation and immigration.

Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg represented Vance as Walz prepared for the debate. Walz has been preparing with his longtime aides, Biden White House alumni and members of the Harris-Walz campaign team. The Minnesota governor is expected to take aim at Vance’s conservative stance on reproductive health and LGBTQ rights.

🗓 Are further debates planned?

No arrangements or proposals for a second vice presidential debate have been released.

As for another presidential debate rematch, Harris has committed to a debate against Trump on October 23, hosted by CNN. But the former president told his supporters during a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, that a second presidential debate was “simply too late – voting has already begun.”
