Is Diddy-Gate coming to the anime industry? Japanese rapper criticizes country for popularizing lolicon fetish

The infamous Sean “Diddy” Combs controversy has sparked many debates and discussions around similar situations worldwide. And now it has reached the leading Japanese anime industry. Recently, a Japanese rapper named Ryoff Karma accused the entire anime community of promoting the lolicon fetish and criticized the entire moe culture.

The rapper has leveled accusations against the industry for allegedly promoting his efforts through prepubescent girls in a sexualized manner. He also pointed out that the country is using the 2D lolicon fixation as a source of national pride and should be ashamed of it.

According to Karma, while the anime industry has grown exponentially in recent years, one of the main reasons for this is the alleged use of fan service and sexualized characters. These aspects damage the industry as a whole and lead to a bad reputation for Japanese culture and the anime community. His controversial opinion came to light after his recent visit to Koi Yamagata Station in Chizu, Yazu District, Tottori, Japan.

Ryoff Karma’s opinion on Japanese anime culture

When Karma visited Koi-Yamagata Station in Chizu, he saw a depiction of Erio Miyamoto, the mascot character of the popular company Chizu Express. The depiction angered him so much that he decided to share his opinion on X about the use of the lolicon fetish to promote various things.

Karma explained:

Sure, there are plenty of excellent anime out there, but it’s hard to see even anime that’s just 2D lolicon fetish acting like it’s something Japan should be culturally proud of. It’s also really painful to see struggling local areas, whose other industries have weakened, desperately turning to otaku with lolicon marketing.

Lolicon is a genre in Japanese culture that focuses on young characters and portrays them in a sexual manner and is heavily criticized for this.

The popular rapper explained that Japanese culture prides itself on sexually abusing prepubescent girls. This is shameful and damaging to the overall image of the ever-growing Japanese anime industry.

Ryoff Karma strongly opposes local communities using anime for advertising purposes

While talking about the 2D lolicon fetish and moe culture, Karma pointed out that local communities often use such anime characters for promotional purposes. He explained that one should not rely on Moe culture for promotion as it will affect them in the long run and repel normal people.

Karma explained:

In places already experiencing population decline, temporary use or designation as a “pilgrimage site” only attracts a short-lived otaku crowd while pushing ordinary people further away. It doesn’t matter how much effort is put into it. Use your brain more.

Karma’s opinion on Japanese anime culture and the 2D lolicon fetish as a major part of it was quite controversial. At the moment, the anime industry is flourishing and such statements are causing great debate.

Nakkan Sports later reported that Karma’s tweets were heavily criticized by anime fans, but did not affect him at all. He reiterated his opinion and pointed out that he would not use a station like Koi-Yamagata if it were in his city.
