Why “Pretty Little Liars” is the perfect classic for cozy evenings

Coming-of-age meets crime

Whether classics like “Stand by me – The Secret of a Summer” written by Stephen King, the “Scream” series or popular series like “Riverdale” and “Vampire Diaries”: teenagers in the fight against evil seem to have a proven recipe for success the canvas. We look forward to watching the young heroes compete against supernatural creatures such as witches, vampires and monsters or put an end to human villains.

To be there again, but without your own heartbreak and nasty self-doubt. The crime element provides the necessary amount of tension and exciting plot twists. And “Pretty Little Liars” has some of them in store.

Modern role models? Heroines with rough edges

Apart from a few worthy questions about love relationships that the protagonists enter into over the course of the seven seasons – such as 16-year-old Aria with her teacher Ezra – the “Liars” certainly serve as inspiration when it comes to dealing with challenges. This is how the popular Hanna copes with her everyday life with her single mother Ashley, who is plagued by money worries and a latent alcohol problem. The ambitious Spencer finds a way to deal with the pressure of her family’s expectations, Aria deals with her parents’ separation, Alison leaves the constant manipulation and intrigue behind her and the queer Emily learns to accept her sexuality.

This doesn’t happen without trials and tribulations, lies and tears. The young women are not shining heroines, but make mistakes and have weaknesses. But that’s exactly what makes her so authentic and likeable.

Fashion Victims: On the hunt for the hottest it-piece

The students are not only constantly on the trail of their adversary “A”, but also demonstrate an unerring sense of fashion. While Katie Holmes and Michelle Williams in “Dawson’s Creek” and Blake Lively and Leighton Meester as “Gossip Girls” shaped the style of the noughties and triggered some Y2K hype, the “Liars” established themselves as one of the first fashion influencers of Gen Z Designate. At the start of the series, the youngest of the generation were just teenagers and enthusiastically copied the looks of the stylish girl clique.
