Huskies are ready for the journey, although only 28 have ever been on a UW road trip

Four games into this University of Washington football season, it’s entirely possible that these players are still putting them on the map.

Hello, I’m Alphonzo Tuputala, I’ve been here for six years, three of them as a starter, the only one who returned in defense…”

On Wednesday, coach Jedd Fisch said that when he reviewed his 74-man travel roster for Friday night’s game at Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey, he found that only 28 players had ever traveled to a Huskies away game before.

“This is a completely new experience for our football team,” Fisch said at his second media meeting this week.

This is this team’s first game outside of Seattle after three home games and another at the Seahawks’ Lumen Field.

The Huskies depart Thursday on a five-hour charter flight to the East Coast, arriving late afternoon. They won’t return until Saturday and stay an extra night as the game doesn’t start until Friday at 8 p.m. and serves as a national broadcast for FOX.

Fisch can tell you in great detail that it will be 80 degrees in New Jersey on Friday and 62 at kickoff, meaning he and his staff will have to make sure the players are hydrated and well-fed as they cross three time zones travel to much warmer climates than they leave.

“We have to do a great job of keeping her weight up,” the coach said. “We need to feed them great. I’ve always said that these guys make money with their bodies. You have to invest in them. …You have to have a good amount of food with you.” Plane and before and after.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available on Jedd.
