Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson had a message for Anthony Edwards after the Minnesota Timberwolves star spoke out about players from previous generations in the NBA who didn’t have much skill.

Published on Jimmy Kimmel Live (starts at 4:55) Johnson said that “you might want to talk trash when you win something” when asked about Edwards’ comments.

Edwards, who admitted he didn’t pay much attention to basketball before he was born, told Lane Florsheim about it Wall Street Journal that Michael Jordan was the only player “who truly had the skills of past generations.”

This isn’t the first time Johnson has addressed Edwards’ comments. His statement to Kimmel mirrored what he said last month at an event at the Yaamava Resort & Casino in San Bernardino County.

Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett said on All that smoke Podcast (h/t Joe Nelson from SI.com) that Edwards’ statement “makes no sense” and that he should know what he’s talking about before speaking about it.

“You have to know what you’re talking about in order to participate in the argument or discussion about what we’re talking about,” Garnett said on All The Smoke. “I’m with you, young guy, but know what you’re talking about, young guy, because [what] You said that doesn’t make sense.

While it’s understandable that players of the generation Edwards was talking about would act defensively, his admission of not paying attention to the stars before him is actually all they needed to know.

Of course, Edwards will cite Jordan as the only player he truly knows, as the Chicago Bulls icon still looms over everything in the NBA. It is estimated that 10 percent of current players wear Jordan shoes during games.

Aside from being inundated with Jordan content, why would Edwards, who was born in 2001, know everything about former NBA players? He could have been more tactful in what he said, but that was never his style anyway.

In some ways, Edwards is a natural antagonist, which has served him well. He said he was the No. 1 option on Team USA this summer on a roster that included LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

Everyone who knows the history of the NBA believes that Jordan was the only talented player. Johnson helped redefine the point guard position throughout his storied career. For this, he was rewarded with 12 All-Star selections, 10 All-NBA selections, five NBA titles, three MVP awards and a place in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
