HSC Suhr Aarau “on fire”: young boss reveals recipe for success

HSC Suhr Aarau “on fire”: young boss reveals recipe for success

The seven-time leader: The HSC Suhr Aarau inspires handball Switzerland – “no coincidence,” says the young boss

The handball players at HSC Suhr Aarau got off to a strong start to the season. But it’s not just the NLA team that’s going well at the moment, the junior division is also shining. The young boss knows why that is.

After last Sunday’s 37:29 win against RTV Basel, there is collective excitement in the Schachenhalle. HSC Suhr Aarau is still unbeaten after five games. The reward: leading the table in the Quickline Handball League.

Suhr Aarau has now “slipped” to second place because of the Kadetten Schaffhausen’s victory on Wednesday. However, this does not diminish the joy of the strong start to the season.

If you consider that coach Aleksandar Stevic’s team only had one external addition in the summer – Seya Grau came from B-Lig team Baden-Endingen – the performance can be rated even a little higher. After the victory over Basel, coach Stevic told our newspaper when asked about the league lead: “That’s a nice snapshot. But just a snapshot.”

The HSC leads the table in seven leagues

The HSC Suhr Aarau is a training club and has made it its mission to be among the top nationally in the junior sector. It is all the more pleasing for the club that the “beautiful snapshot” can currently also be applied to the juniors.

The HSC also greets you from first place in the table in the highest junior classes – in the categories U19 Elite, U17 Elite, and U15 Elite. The U13 Elite is in second place, tied with leader Schaffhausen. But not only: the juniors of the U19 Inter, the U17 Inter and the U13 Inter as well as the juniors of the U16 Inter from the partner club HSG Aareland Wolves are currently in first place.

Young boss will “view the success with humility”

Is this a coincidence or not? Toni Kern, the sports director of the HSC youth team and coach of the U19 elite team, answers this question: “The current success is the result of a long-term, consistent development.” We have been working for years to optimize the structures and processes in the youth team . So it doesn’t come as a surprise to me where we currently stand.”

“All the young players are very motivated and committed,” says Kern. He not only attests to their sporting qualities, but also their character. Nevertheless, he raises his warning finger. “But what is important to me is that we view this success with humility.” We are still in the middle of the process and still have a long way to go.”

You could also enjoy your current success without losing focus. Kern also reveals that there have been some adjustments to the training design and that these are “certainly a piece of the puzzle for success”.

At the HSC, those responsible are aware that the season is still young. That’s why they want to continue working hard for success. So that the “beautiful snapshot” lasts for a long time.
