Women’s Champions League: VfL Wolfsburg’s opponents have been determined

The group phase of the Women’s Champions League was drawn on Friday. The she-wolves meet, among other things, an old rival.

The last qualifying games for the group stage of the Champions League took place during the week. 16 teams made it through. The four groups were drawn on Friday.

The four group heads were already set. The top four in the four largest European leagues do not require qualification to play. All other teams, including the VfL team, first had to qualify for the group phase. Olympique Lyon, Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona and Chelsea FC were seeded.

The toughest opponents will be the already seeded players from Olympique Lyon, who VfL Wolfsburg have often met in the Champions League in the past. Lyon is something like Wolfsburg’s old final rival in the Champions League. Both teams met four times in the Champions League final. The She-Wolves won once (in the first game in 2013), Lyon won three times (2016, 2018, 2020). Impressive: Lyon won the Champions League eight times between 2011 and 2020. Last year they lost 2-0 in the final against FC Barcelona.
