High from 1. FC Magdeburg also continues at SV Darmstadt 98

The still unbeaten 1. FC Magdeburg remains close on the heels of league leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Christian Titz’s team won 2-1 (1-1) at Darmstadt 98 on Saturday (September 28, 2024) and climbed to second place in the table with 15 points.

Birthday boy Burcu gives himself a present

Livan Burcu, who started for the ill Baris Atik on his 20th birthday, and Connor Krempicki scored the goals for FCM (22nd/48th) in front of 17,311 spectators in the Böllenfalltor stadium. Isac Lidberg had previously given the home team the lead (11th). The Magdeburgers ended the party with ten men after a yellow-red card for Marcus Mathisen (73′).

The home team got off to a better start and took their second chance through Lidberg, who scored from a few meters. Killian Corredor failed to build Darmstadt’s lead (16th). This punishes the guests. Burcu hit the bottom right corner from the left side of the penalty area.

FCM secures threesomes with ten men

As a result, the FCM had more of the game. Krempicki’s head only touched the crossbar, and Xavier Amaechi missed just a little later (33rd/36th). After the change, Krempicki blazed better and put his team on the road to victory from close range.

In stoppage time, Darmstadt’s Clemens Riedel missed the ball from close range and thus equalized (90+3) and Magdeburg was finally able to celebrate its fourth away win of the season. Nevertheless, the Titz team has to accept the accusation that they switched to management mode too early and did not actively seek the third goal enough.
