A few days ago, Viktorija Golubic ended a long dry spell with her victory in the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing. The Swiss failed in the first round of six consecutive tournaments. But this feeling of success didn’t inspire the 31-year-old for long; it was over in Beijing after just the second round.

Golubic loses against Croatian Donna Vekic (WTA 20) 6:4, 6:7 (3:7), 4:6. The Swiss, ranked 76 places lower, was able to serve to win the match in the second set, but clearly missed this great opportunity and then gave the game away.
