Alba Berlin gets its first win of the season against Oldenburg

Berlin (dpa) – Alba Berlin has rehabilitated itself in the Basketball Bundesliga for the opening defeat in Hamburg. The weakened Berliners clearly won their first home game in front of 9,085 spectators against EWE Baskets Oldenburg with 105:70 (48:39). The best Berlin throwers were Martin Hermannsson with 20 and Trevion Williams with 16 points.

Coach Israel Gonzalez was missing a quintet in Gabriele Procida (ankle), Matt Thomas (knee), Malte Delow (concussion), Tim Schneider (eye surgery) and Ziga Samar (rehab after ruptured Achilles tendon). Nevertheless, the Berliners are off to a strong start. New captain Hermannsson was particularly convincing, scoring Berlin’s first nine points single-handedly.

Alba lead melts

The capital city team overran the guests in the first quarter and pulled away early after a 17-0 run. At times Alba was ahead with 19 points (28:9). But then the guests woke up and now hit their shots. Alba no longer defended as consistently and found it more difficult to attack. The lead dwindled to nine points before the break.

After the break, Alba increased the intensity again, found better solutions on offense and defended more attentively. In addition, Oldenburg’s Geno Crandall and Justin Jaworski were eliminated early in the third quarter with five fouls. At the beginning of the last section, Alba had pulled ahead again to 19 points (78:59). In the end the guests collapsed completely and Alba had an easy time.
