XXL format with 32 teams – final at the gates of New York: Club World Cup takes place in 12 stadiums – sport

Fifa President Gianni Infantino spoke about the 2025 Club World Cup at the Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park. The new XXL format of the competition will take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025.

The final will take place just outside New York in New Jersey. The football stadium of the New York NFL teams Giants and Jets had previously been awarded the contract for the final of the 2026 World Cup. Other venues include Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington, DC and Orlando, with two stadiums chosen.

Test run for the 2026 World Cup

32 teams will compete in the Club World Cup in 2025 and will be played in eight groups of four. The release takes place in December. The tournament is seen as an important test ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. However, the event is also met with resistance given the overcrowded schedule. FIFA will hold the tournament every 4 years. No organizer has yet been decided for 2029.
