The denial follows a lawsuit filed last week by Star Health

What’s the story?

US-based software company Cloudflare has denied allegations of hosting two websites linked to a significant data breach at India’s leading insurer Star Health.

The denial follows a lawsuit filed last week by Star Health accusing Cloudflare of providing a platform for these websites.

In response to the allegations, the company clarified its role as an intermediary between website hosts and end users.

Cloudflare clarifies its role in data transfer

Cloudflare told Reuters that it is not the one hosting these disputed domains.

It described its role as similar to that of a pass-through service, acting as an intermediary between the website host and the end user. This could be the reason why you are seeing a Cloudflare IP address.

This clarification comes as Star Health is embroiled in litigation against Cloudflare.

The legal action extends to Telegram and hackers

In addition to going after Cloudflare, Star Health has also decided to take legal action against messaging app Telegram and a hacker named xenZen.

This came after some reports claimed that sensitive customer information was being shared through Telegram chatbots. Leaked details included customers’ phone numbers, ID copies and blood reports.

Star Health seeks injunction due to privacy breach concerns

In light of the recent data breach, Star Health has managed to obtain an interim injunction from a court in Tamil Nadu.

The order requires Telegram and xenZen to block any chatbots or websites in India that share this data online.

This legal action is part of Star Health’s strategy to protect its customers’ data from further leaks.

Telegram’s response to the data breach

Telegram told it Reuters that any new bots that attempted to share this data were likely wiped out by a major cleanup of searchable content.

This move comes after Star Health received a court order.

The messaging app is now under global scrutiny after its founder Pavel Durov was arrested in France last month for allegedly supporting illegal activities through the app.

Star Health assures customers of data security

Despite the ongoing litigation and concerns about data leaks, Star Health has commended its customers and assured them that their sensitive data is safe and reliable.

The company said its initial reviews “did not reveal any widespread compromise” of customer data.

This promise is part of Star Health’s strategy to maintain trust and transparency with its customers even during the current crisis.
