Samsung is probably planning a significant performance boost

After several years, Samsung has apparently decided to increase the RAM of its flagship smartphone. This is presumably intended to make the device fit for the current and upcoming AI functions as part of Galaxy AI.

Samsung is probably increasing the RAM

The top variants in the Galaxy S20 Ultra and S21 Ultra from 2020 and 2021 still had 16 gigabytes of RAM installed. But then Samsung reduced the RAM in subsequent models to 12 GB. However, with the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung seems to be relying on more memory again.

According to leaker IceUniverse, the Ultra variant of the smartphone will “definitely have a 16GB RAM version, that’s 100% confirmed.” This is what it says in a post on X (via Neowin). In this regard, Samsung would catch up with competitors such as OnePlus or Google, whose top devices are also equipped with 16 GB of RAM.

It remains somewhat unclear whether all variants of the S25 Ultra come with increased storage. The leaker’s statement could mean that Samsung remains true to its past strategy. Recently, more RAM was only available for smartphone versions with maximum hard drive storage. This is also indicated by a benchmark in which the S25 Ultra was able to outperform the iPhone 16 Pro Max in a version with 12 GB of RAM.

Preparing for AI

What is pretty certain, however, is that the Koreans are taking this step to equip the phones for the resource-hungry Galaxy AI functions. For similar reasons, Google had already increased the amount of RAM in its Pixel models. As a major manufacturer, only Apple does not increase the RAM of its top models. As with its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro Max only has 8 GB of RAM.

More leaks about the S25 Ultra

In addition to more RAM, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is also said to be more compact than its predecessor. Due to particularly narrow bezels, the screen is still larger. However, a camera upgrade that was previously discussed no longer seems to be safe, as another leak claims. However, CAD images that have emerged already show the probable design of the upcoming Samsung flagship.
