List of participants WTA Japan Open 2024 with Fernandez, Andreescu and Anisimova

List of participants WTA Japan Open 2024 with Fernandez, Andreescu and Anisimova

The entry list was confirmed ahead of the 2024 Japan Open, scheduled to take place from October 14 to 20, following this week’s men’s edition.
The tournament, first held in 2009, is the precursor to the Toray Pan Pacific Open, which is held in Tokyo and features a better field but is still headlined by some top names in Osaka. These include Leylah Fernandez, Bianca Andreescu and Amanda Anisimova.

However, it has already been pointed out on the forums that there is no Naomi Osaka in Osaka, which may be a missed trick. She plays most of the Asian tournament and is therefore probably taking a week off.

Samantha Stosur has won the Japan Open three times, making her the most successful player in tournament history. She won the tournament in 2009, 2013 and 2014, and Marion Bartoli is another notable winner. Ashlyn Krueger is the defending champion but is not currently in the field. The only former Grand Slam winner in the field is Bianca Andreescu. She has struggled in recent months after a brilliant start to her comeback.

The same goes for Fernandez, who hasn’t won in three tournaments, and maybe that’s a leap of faith or a scare tactic. Time will tell. Elise Mertens, Magdalena Frech and Marie Bouzkova are also there.
