Kumaraswamy describes the ADGP mining lease investigation against him as an extortionist and a criminal

Kumaraswamy describes the ADGP mining lease investigation against him as an extortionist and a criminal

Bengaluru: Union minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday described Lokayukta ADGP M Chandra Sekhar, head of the SIT probing the 2007 mining lease case, as an “extortionist” and a “criminal”. “He (Sekhar) has written a letter to his colleagues. I “I will disclose who prepared this letter and where in due course,” Kumaraswamy told reporters here.

In the letter Kumaraswamy referred to, Sekhar wrote: “Today an accused of Crime No. 16/14 of SIT, Sh HD Kumaraswamy, made false and malicious allegations and threats in a press conference.”

“As you know, the SIT had sought criminal sanction from the relevant authority for the accused. This accused who is on bail, Sh HD Kumaraswamy, did this to deter us from discharging our duties. It seems his aim is to create fear in the minds of SIT officers by attacking me.”

“But a DEFENDANT, no matter how high and powerful he may be, is a DEFENDANT. Let us not allow ourselves to be demotivated by such accusations and threats. As the head of SIT, I promise you that I will work and bring to justice without fear or favor.” To all the criminals and accused in our cases, I also promise you that I will protect you from all external influences.

The illegal mining case relates to allegations that Kumaraswamy illegally approved a 550-hectare mining lease to Sri Sai Venkateswara Minerals (SSVM) in Bellary district during his tenure as CM from 2006 to 2008, in violation of the law.

Replying to the letter, Kumaraswamy said, “I might be an accused in this case but this officer is a criminal disguised as a police officer. There are allegations against him of a range of criminal activities.”

“An extortionist who committed robberies in Bengaluru by building relationships. I have documents,” he said. Quoting writer George Berrnard Shaw, Sekhar said: “Never wrestle with pigs. They both get dirty and the pig likes it.”

But we cannot avoid facing criminals and accused while discharging our duties.” According to Kumaraswamy, Sekhar hails from Andhra Pradesh and is an IPS cadre officer in Himachal Pradesh. “Instead of working in Himachal Pradesh, he has been here for 25 years.” Years by providing shelter to some people. Why is he here? “He is here because he doesn’t like the weather in Himachal Pradesh…” he claimed.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah preferred not to comment on the dispute between Kumaraswamy and the IPS officer. “He (Kumaraswamy) has made some allegations against the ADGP. He (ADGP) responded. I only know this much,” he told reporters.

Asked how the officials started commenting on the politicians, Siddaramaiah said, “He (Kumaraswamy) made a mistake. Why does someone comment on an official? If the officer does something unlawful, the comment is justified.”

Regarding the ADGP’s use of the word ‘pig’, Siddaramaiah wanted to know whether the official had referred to someone else’s name. The official only quoted George Bernard Shaw. “I won’t comment on that. I will not interfere in this,” Siddaramaiah said.
