2nd Bundesliga: “It really pissed me off!” Spectacle between 1. FC Köln and KSC – debacle for Hertha BSC

2nd Bundesliga: “It really pissed me off!” Spectacle between 1. FC Köln and KSC – debacle for Hertha BSC

Despite three goals in the first 15 minutes, the defensively desolate Bundesliga relegated team only managed a 4:4 (4:2) draw against the unbeaten Karlsruher SC and is already eight points behind leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf. KSC never gave up and is third thanks to a hat-trick from Marvin Wanitzek.

“Actually, the 4:2 took us completely out of the game psychologically,” said Karlsruhe coach Christian Eichner Heaven. He became quite clear during the half-time break: “I was really annoyed by the way we defended here. That’s why I’m not happy with the result.”

This also applied to FC captain Timo Hübers. “There really is a worm in there. At first it looked like a perfect football Sunday,” he said.

The kick-off was slightly delayed due to traffic jams – the game started quickly. In the past few weeks, most recently in the 2-2 draw in Düsseldorf, FC had scored far too few goals from an abundance of chances. This time, however, he took advantage of his first three opportunities: Luca Waldschmidt (3rd) slammed the ball under the crossbar from an acute angle, Damion Downs (7th) pushed it through the legs of KSC goalkeeper Max Weiß and followed it up with a perfect shot (15 .).

Leart Paqarada had collected three goal assists, carnival songs were playing, the top game on Sunday seemed to be decided early – but not with the KSC! He shook himself briefly and hit back twice, bypassed by his captain Wanitzek (19th/27th). It was a breathless game, and the first half was still not over: Fabian Schleusener headed the ball onto the crossbar for Karlsruhe (41′), Tim Lemperle (45’+2) made it 4-2 after another Paqarada assist.

After the break in front of 50,000 spectators, the crazy game could be described as calm for six and a half minutes, then Leon Jensen (52nd) brought the KSC closer again. Wanitzek was the preparer and immediately scored his third goal (55th) after a hustle and bustle in the penalty area. Cologne simply wasn’t able to defend and they conceded eight goals in three games.

Afterwards it seemed as if both teams were tired of the constant roller coaster ride. The strength also diminished.
