Elections 2024 in Austria: Projection and result of the National Council election in Upper Austria

Elections 2024 in Austria: Projection and result of the National Council election in Upper Austria

The 2024 National Council election has been defeated. The current projection sees the FPÖ in the lead – with 29.2 percent. With a fluctuation range of 2 percent, the ÖVP is in second place with 26.3 percent, according to projections. The SPÖ is third with 20.5 percent, the Neos would come in fourth with 9.1 percent – ahead of the Greens with 8.7 percent.

UPPER AUSTRIA/AUSTRIA. According to projections, the small parties would not enter parliament – but the KPÖ could do so through a direct mandate in Graz. The Communists are currently at 2.3 percent nationwide, the Beer Party is at 2.1 percent in the first projection. The MFG list currently has 0.4 percent, the Madeleine Petrovic list has 0.6 percent, the Gaza list has 0.2 percent and the None list has 0.6 percent.

A preliminary final result is not expected until around 11 p.m. Reason: Those postal votes that were received by Friday will be counted immediately and also included in the municipal results. As a result, voter turnout in the higher-lying municipalities is likely to be lower – it is therefore not comparable to the last election.
All absentee ballots that have not arrived at the election districts by Friday will be counted on Monday or Thursday. The preliminary final result including postal votes will then be available.

Projection for the 2024 National Council election

The projections are based on votes that have already been counted, but do not reflect the current count status 1:1. The fluctuation range in the first projection is likely to be around two percent – with each subsequent projection it decreases. This means that the race for first place could still be open in the first projection, as could the question of whether small parties will make it into parliament.

Extrapolation in Upper Austria

There is also a projection in Upper Austria: the Freedom Party is also likely to become the strongest force in the country, as it did in the EU elections. In a current state projection, the FPÖ has 31.12 percent, the ÖVP 26.45 percent, the SPÖ 20.02 percent, the Greens 7.99 percent, the Neos 8.18 percent, and the Beer Party 2.03 percent and the KPÖ to 1.76 percent.

First reactions from Upper Austria

ÖVP:
“We imagined the outcome differently. There’s nothing too nice about it. Today we see again that the European trend does not stop at Austria. “After the crises, people’s criticism is directed at those who are currently responsible and not at those who primarily point out problems,” says OÖVP state manager Florian Hiegelsberger. Given the surveys, “second place is what was realistically achievable for us today.”

Green:
Upper Austria’s Green Party leader, Provincial Councilor Stefan Kaineder, is combative: “But the conservative and right-wing headwind is massive and cannot be impressed by natural disasters. This urgently needs a counterpart. We already promise today that we will continue to fight for climate protection with every fiber of our being, defend achievements such as the climate ticket with great passion and promote courageous soil protection.”
