Heaven Shall Burn cooperate with the DONOTS • metal.de

It is not surprising that HEAVEN SHALL BURN and the DONOTS share the same political attitude. They are now loudly expressing this unity with a joint song and video. The track is called “No Step Back” and HEAVEN SHALL BURN guitarist Maik Weichert says:

“HSB and DONOTS, that doesn’t sound that compatible at first, but when it comes to basic musical attitudes and political attitudes, we’re absolutely on the same wavelength and that’s why we’ve been friends since time immemorial.” It all started back when I was Ingo and Guido met ages ago at a Thermomix cooking course in Wolfsburg and the chemistry was immediately right. We’ve been telling each other for ages now at every opportunity that we absolutely have to do something together. We just felt like it was time to get serious about it. When it comes to musical drive, live madness and a clear political edge, the DONOTS are an absolute heavyweight in the music scene, a brand that embodies exactly the virtues that we also uphold. It was very important to us that it wasn’t somehow a sterile guest musician number, but that both bands really work on equal terms and shape the song. And we think the result is really something special, as it differs considerably from the bands’ respective sounds, but without being completely crazy. This was an exciting and worthwhile experiment for us, and we’re extremely excited to see how it’s received by people out there. Of course, the text is also very current and important for us. We hope many people can identify with it as much as we do!”

DONOTS frontman Ingo happily returns the words of praise and adds:

“For me, HEAVEN SHALL BURN are one of the most extraordinary and best guitar bands of our time and deservedly are now one of the biggest metal combos in the country.” But their commitment to the right makes the band even more valuable, because a clear positioning and demarcation against backwardness, In my opinion, arch-conservative structures, racism and fascism still take place far too little in metal on a broader scale. Here it’s clearly the guys’ punk and hardcore roots that are beautifully evident everywhere and that make this collaboration so logical for me. In the 30 years of our band’s history, we DONOTS have always campaigned for a peaceful, shared future with a future and have always supported NGOs such as “Kein Bock Auf Nazis”. In addition, both bands not only fit together personally, but also have a very similar subcultural background. Guido and I in particular are big fans of metal and combos like ENTOMBED, CARCASS, NAILS, SODOM, KREATOR, SLAYER and co, so it was a great pleasure for us to work in this direction with vocals and guitar. This was more than intuitive thanks to the great pre-production that we were sent from Saalfeld. I think the result is great, I’m happy that punk and metal really go hand in hand as well as I always suspected and we Donots are very grateful to HSB for the idea and the invitation! In return, you are happy to accept that at the end of the video for ‘No Step Back’ somewhere in a shooting festival hall in the hinterland you will end up being killed professionally…”.

In addition to the digital release, “Keinen Step Back” will also be released on November 22nd, 2024 as a limited vinyl 7-inch via the Thuringian’s new web shop. The B-side on it is a cover version of SLIME’s “Schweineherbst”, which HEAVEN SHALL BURN produced together with the German noise rockers DŸSE and which also features Michael “Elf” Mayer from SLIME on guitar.
