Meanwhile, Malay Kumar Dutta has been appointed as the new officer following the arrest of Abhijit Mondal, former Officer-in-Charge (O/C) of Tala police station, in connection with the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case. responsible. His appointment came through an official order from the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata on Thursday.

The order states that Inspector of Police (I-Cadre) Malay Kumar Dutta, Addl. O/C, Shyampukur PS, North Division, Kolkata Police, who is presently attending to work in the office of O/C, Tala PS, North Division, Kolkata Police in addition to his own duties, is charged as Officer-in-Charge against Tala PS, North Division, Calcutta Police, with immediate effect in the interest of public service.

On Wednesday, both Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and arrested senior officer Abhijit Mondal were sent to the Presidential Jail from Sealdah court. Mondal and Ghosh were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College.

Earlier, the West Bengal Medical Council had canceled Sandip Ghosh’s registration as a doctor. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also launched a search operation at Ghosh’s residence in Chinar Park, Kolkata. This operation was related to a separate investigation into financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College. The ED had registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to probe alleged money laundering related to Ghosh.

On September 10, a CBI court remanded Sandip Ghosh and three others in connection with financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The CBI’s probe into these matters followed a directive from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court, which ordered an inquiry into allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement in the institution.

Abhijit Mondal was suspended from Kolkata Police on September 18 after he was arrested by the CBI on September 14. He was produced in Sealdah court along with Ghosh on Sunday. (ANI)
