Djokovic plays on the Great Wall, Muchova shows her training in Beijing

In today’s daily dose of social media, we’re taking a look at the top activities and entertainment for ATP and WTA players. Novak Djokovic surprised social media with remarkable pictures showing him playing tennis on the Great Wall of China and doing a photo shoot with a local star during a promotional event for his sponsor.
As the Asian swing progresses, Karolina Muchova shares a video of her intense training amid a great comeback. Two ATP and WTA legends expressed their joy at the return of Simona Halep in Hong Kong.

Djokovic hits the Great Wall of China in the promotional event

Novak Djokovic took part in a unique event while waiting for the Shanghai Masters to begin. The 24-time Grand Slam champion will return to the tour in a week for the first time since the Davis Cup, where Serbia defeated Greece in Belgrade. Nole has already arrived in China and is preparing for his first Tour title of the season.

In a promotional video for major sponsor Lacoste, the newly crowned Olympic gold medalist played tennis on the Great Wall of China alongside local singer Wang Yibo, a member of South Korean-Chinese band Uniq. After the friendly moment of playing tennis with the local star, Nole also took part in a photoshoot suggested by the clothing sponsor.

It is still uncertain how Djokovic’s season will end as it is not yet clear whether he will be able to qualify for the ATP Finals – something that has not happened since 2017, when injuries hampered him from playing regularly in Shanghai followed from the “Six Kings Slam” in Saudi Arabia.

Chris Evert and Boris Becker applaud Halep’s return

Simona Halep’s return to the tour is eagerly awaited, starting on Monday, September 30th at the WTA 125 Hong Kong Open. Two legends, Chris Evert and Boris Becker, took to social media to share their excitement about the return of one of the best players of the last decade.

The Romanian’s doping ban kept her away from the tour for almost 20 months. After a lengthy trial in which she repeatedly disputed the lack of transparency and the inability to appeal or defend herself, Halep was found innocent, but was able to reduce her original sentence of four years and made a quick return to action at the Miami Open Way back place.

Despite her long absence from tennis, the two-time Grand Slam winner showed a good level against Paula Badosa, but lost in three sets. Halep was later plagued by injuries, forcing her to withdraw from her next tournament two months later while facing McCartney Kessler at the WTA 125 in Paris.

Halep is now fully prepared for her return to the tour during the Asian Swing after receiving a wild card into the Hong Kong tournament. She will face Australian Arina Rodionova in her opening match.

BREAKING NEWS! BIG UPDATE!!! Simona Halep says she feels better and ready sooner than expected. She is flying to Hong Kong tomorrow to compete in the 125m event instead of waiting for the 250m event at the end of October!

Vondrousova is taking a break in Valencia

Marketa Vondrousova has kept her fans updated after her season ended due to injury. The 2023 Wimbledon champion spends her days in Valencia with her boyfriend, Czech tennis player Andrew Paulson (No. 365).

The former world number 6 made her last appearance at Wimbledon, where she defended her title but was defeated in the first round by Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in straight sets. Vondrousova later announced her withdrawal from the Olympics and US Open due to a hand injury.

The talented Czech player then undergoes shoulder surgery that forced her to end her season and will likely drop her out of the top 35 heading into 2025. While recovering from her injury, Vondrousova shared some photos on social media from her time out in Valencia, Spain.

Alcaraz and Gauff have “so much fun” with traditional Chinese costumes

Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff steal the spotlight in traditional Chinese outfits at the Beijing Palace. Although they recently shared a few photos together while walking through the Forbidden City, this time they revealed the outfits they wore in a funny joint video from the ATP and WTA.

Both Grand Slam champions arrived at the China Open as favorites and each already has two wins. Gauff is waiting for her round of 16 (against Katie Volynets or Naomi Osaka), while Alcaraz is already in the quarterfinals, where he will face Karen Khachanov.

After a teaser of the trip, which featured two of today’s most famous tennis stars, the full video was finally released: “It’s my first time in the Forbidden City and it’s very cool. I didn’t know what to expect, “It’s really cool to be surrounded by so much,” said the American world No. 2.

“I will definitely remember this moment because there couldn’t be a better person than Coco. I had so much fun with her, and I think we’ll take a really good picture together with the clothes,” Alcaraz added, as they both laughed and joked.

Muchova shares her workout routine to continue her strong comeback

Karolina Muchova has put in a remarkable performance since returning to the WTA Tour a few months ago after a long injury layoff. The Czech player ended her fantastic 2023 season early and was out of action for almost nine months after the US Open due to wrist surgery.

They’ve only played five tournaments this year, but they’ve already put together outstanding performances, including a semi-final appearance at Flushing Meadows in early September and reaching the final at the Palermo Open (with a record of 14-4 so far). In a new video on social media, Muchova shares her training routine in Beijing, which of course includes time on the court in addition to work in the gym. The Czech also spent time with colleagues Priscilla Hon and Kirsten Flipkens and posted a video of herself during her final match at the China Open.

In China she has already made mistakes against Anna Blinkova and number 30 seed Yue Yuan. She will face Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian in the round of 32 and will look to continue her strong comeback in the second half of the season. At the moment she is already in the top 50 of the WTA rankings and in the top 40 of the race.
