Local sports Handball Oberliga Südbaden start-finish victory with obstacles for the TV Oberkirch Nachrichten der Ortenau

On the second matchday of the Handball Oberliga Südbaden, TV Oberkirch was able to celebrate its first win of the season. The Renchtals prevailed on Saturday evening in the promoted duel at SG Ohlsbach/Elgersweier with 32:29 (14:13).

In doing so, the TVO also took revenge for the two defeats suffered against their Ortenau rivals last season. “Of course that gives us a good feeling. “We wanted to stop the series against Ohlsbach/Elgersweier, and we managed to do that – even if not everything was perfect for 60 minutes,” TVO coach Daniel Kempf said with relief.

It was a start-to-finish victory for TV Oberkirch, because after Yannick Ludwig’s opening goal to make it 1-0 after 53 seconds, the presenters never managed to equalize. However, a few obstacles had to be overcome before the Renchtalers could get the two points they longed for. “That’s completely normal in a handball game. There are always phases that you have to get through. “We managed that quite well this time,” said Kempf.

The guests, who like SG OEL had lost their opening game, laid the foundation stone in the early stages. Kempf preferred Marvin Roche to Marc Wachsmann in goal. “It was a gut decision based on the training impressions from last week,” explained the coach, and he hit the mark. Because Roche unnerved the SG early on with four or five saves, which enabled the TVO to take a 4:1 (7th) and 7:3 lead (15th). At 11:6 thanks to the fifth goal from the newcomer, Ludwig even had a lead of five goals for the first time (20th).

Afterwards, the Oberkirchen team acted too negligently on the offensive. “Ludwig’s presence at the circle is tempting, but we have to remain more patient and wait for the right moments for the face-offs,” said Kempf. OEL used a few TVO ball losses to counterattack and was within a goal again at 13:14 by the break.

At the beginning of the second half, the Renchtals were again highly concentrated. Veteran Timo Roll came off the bench and scored a whopping seven goals in this 30-minute game. Only Régis Matzinger (8) was more successful on the TVO side. Over 18:15 (37th), the guests moved ahead to 21:16 (40th) and 23:18 (45th), but failed to give the SG the final death blow. At 28:26 (56th), there was a threat of a tense final phase, but Ludwig (2) and Matzinger (2) sealed the deal.

“Overall, it was a mature performance from us.” Above all, we defended very passionately. “That was the key,” summarized Kempf happily and is now looking forward to the next home game on Saturday (8 p.m.) against SG Freudenstadt/Baiersbronn.
